Organotin compounds with at least one tin-sulphur bond are generally called organotin mercaptides or sulphur-containing tin stabilizers or thiotins. Organotin compounds, which are derivatives of carboxylic acids, mainly maleic acids or semi-esters of maleic acids are usually known as organotin carboxylates, and the corresponding stabilizers are called sulphur-free tin stabilizers.

Calcium/ Zinc Stabilizers
Calcium / Zinc Stabilizers are systems which are free from heavy metals. The non-toxic grades are formulated using permitted calcium and zinc salts with other food contact approved additives. These are used for processing non-toxic, food packaging as wee as toys.
The following grades of Calcium / Zinc Stabilizers are offered by PATCHAM:
Patstab 401 Is a low toxic system ideally suitable for general purpose flexible applications such as extrusion, injection moulding and plastisol spread coating. It exhibits reasonable early colour as well as moderate long term stability.
Patstab 403: Is a high performance low toxic system. It exhibits good early colour as well as long term stability. It is suitable for general purpose flexible applications such as extrusion, calendaring and general purpose plastisol applications.
Barium / Lead Stabilizers
Liquid Barium / Lead mixed stabilizers are economical stabilizer systems with good performance. Used for the applications where crystal clarity is not required and the restrictions on lead do not prevail.
Patcham offers the following grades of Ba/Pb.
Patstab 504 Is a general purpose stabilizer suitable for flexible applications where high clarity is not a priority. It is an economical product mostly used for opaque extrusion as well as injection moulding.
Patstab 505: Is an economical general purpose stabilizer. It provides high clarity as well as good long term stability. It is suitable for general purpose extrusion of garden hoses as well as flexible injection moulding.
The most common co-stabilizer based on Epoxy compounds are Epoxidized Soyabean Oil. Due to the phenomenon of synergistic effect, the stabilization efficiency of liquid metal soaps stabilizer systems is considerably improved by the addition of epoxy co-stabilizer. Addition of this compound also prevents the sudden blackening of formulations containing Zinc (Zinc burning). This co-stabilizer in combination with metal carboxylates is not only able bind hydrogen chloride but is also able to substitute labile chlorine atoms under the catalytic influence of Cadmium or Zinc ions.
Patcham offers Patstab 901: (Epoxidized soyabean Oil) is of low odour and light colour. It is an excellent co-stabilizer to be used in conjunction with all Patstab metal carboxyl ate stabilizers.
Production of foamed PVC articles by regulated decomposition of chemical blowing agent such as Azodicarbonamide (AZDC) is well known. Applications include PVC wall covering and a variety of supported and unsupported sheeting.
The decomposition temperature of AZDC byitself is over 200°C, which is above the normal processing temperature of PVC. However by usage of suitable activators the decomposition temperature could be substantially reduced to facilitate smooth processing of PVC.
PATCHAM offers a range of Cd/Zn, K/Zn, Ba/Zn and Ca/Zn based liquid stabilizer systems also known as Kickers, which apart from stabilizing function, also act as activators for chemically foamed PVC.
Patstab 1001 is a novel, antimony mercaptide stabilizer system for rigid pipes and pipe fitting applications. It can also be used for plasticized clear and filled applications.
Optimum results are obtained when used in twin screw extrusion of pipes as well as injection moulded pipe fittings.
The advantage of using Patstab 1001 is the low dosage levels as compared to Lead and Tin stabilizers . Best results are obtained when used with Calcium Stearate due to the exceptional synergy of the two materials. In comparison with lead stabilizers, Patstab 1001 gives much greater heat stability.
Improved U.V. resistance can be achieved by increased dosage of titanium dioxide in the formulation with Patstab 1001. Also the sulphur staining is much less than lead based stabilizers.
At low temperatures Patstab 1001 performs very well as compared to Methyl and Butyl Tin as well as Lead based stabilizers.
At low dosage levels, Patstab 1001 surpass the efficiency of Butyl and Methyl Tin Mercaptide stabilizers.
Patstab 1001 can also be used for plasticized clear as well as filled applications. It is effective for extrusion of transparent tubes and hoses and flexible blown films.
